CGB-ECF-D. William Stedman MALTBY, b. Feb. 5, 1840 (Isaac M.6, Morris 5, Sam.4, Sam.3, Sam.2, Wm.1). m. Jan. 16, 1865, Aletha HENDRICKS, at Chambersburgh, Pa., b. at Lightersburg, Va., July 21, 1849; d. June 30, 1898. He was in the Civil War. Enlisted 1st New York Light Artillery, Co. A. Served 3 years, 9 mo. Rec. Honorable Discharge. He d. at Atwood, Kansas, Mar. 7, 1919. He grad. Univ. of N.Y.City at age of 21.

                      Obituary.

"William Stedman MALTBY was born in Oneida Co., N.Y., Feb. 5th, 1840, and died in Kansas March 7, 1919, aged 79 years, 1 month, and 2 days.

He graduated from the University of New York at the age of twentyone. He enlisted in the first New York Light Artillery Company A., United States Army and served three years and nine months when he received an Honorable Discharge. He uas united with the Episcopalian church at Washington, D.C., at the age of twenty-two.

He was united in marriage to Miss Aleha Hendricks at Chambersburgh, Pa., Jan. 6, 1865, who preceeded him in death, dying twenty-one years ago. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. W.N.Brown.

He left New York and came to Kansas in 1878 and settled at Wetmore, Nemaha Co., and in the spring of 1901, he came to Rawlins Co., where he made his home with his daughter. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. W.N.Brown, his grandchildren, H.A.Brown; Atwood; Mrs. Fred Neff, Greeley, Colo; Mrs. A.F.Most, Achilles, Kansas; Vernon S. Brown, in France; and Walter and Iolene at home. Seven great-grandchildren besides a host of friends. If he had an enemy no one knew it. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Goff, Kansas.

Services were held at the Stephens Chapel and the body laid to rest in the Chapel cemetery.
